May 13, 2017 “Soft” Opening Invitation

The following is the text of an email communication sent April 28, 2017 to all members of Terra Sancta Ministries’ email list:

April 28, 2017
Feast of St. Louis Marie Grignon de Montfort

Dear Friends of Terra Sancta Ministries and of Our Blessed Mother,

After 2 years of “restoring terra sancta” to make a gift for our Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, we are finally set to open the Shrine of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Chapel of Saint Joseph!  (The address is 400 South Blvd. West, Pontiac, MI 48341)  Our opening will be on Saturday, May 13—the 100th anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady of Fatima.  This auspicious date of the most important Marian apparition of the 20th century will be a perfect launching point for our mission: to renew devotion to the holy Mother of God as part of the Church’s New Evangelization to reach out to all, especially the nominal baptized and the lost and marginal.  We do this from a Franciscan spirituality of humble hope in God and grounded in a love for the Holy Land—the homeland of Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

This will be a “soft opening”—no bishop or fanfare.  It will be a simple opening just so we can start operating on the two days we will offer Mass: Tuesday and Saturday.  (See schedule below.)  The days we can be open may expand if we are able to grow our volunteer base.

Our schedule for May 13 and for Tuesdays & Saturdays will be …

  • (10:00 am) We open the St. Joseph Chapel & shrine-grotto of the Immaculate Heart of Mary
  • (10:30-11:45 am) Confessions
  • (12 Noon) Mass
  • (1:00 pm) Exposition & Rosary to follow Holy Mass.
  • (3:00 pm) We close

For May 13 we will add praying the prayers given at Fatima and making an Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  We will conclude with a simple reception.  After the Rosary, you are welcome to visit the grotto and grounds.

No RSVP nor any response to this email is necessary—just come.  Seating will be on a first come, first serve basis.  Should you not be able to attend, please bless us with your prayers.  This shrine is really YOUR shrine, and it will operate to the extent that you, the holy People of God, support us.  For our part, we want to help you “Seek first the Kingdom of God and the Father’s reign of holiness over you” (Matthew 6:33) so that, as Jesus taught us, you can “store up treasure in Heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal.” (Matthew 6:20)

May God bless you.  I am,

Sincerely yours in Jesus, Mary & Joseph,
Fr. Alex Kratz, OFM
